The Mormon Faith & Politics

I’ve had alot of time to myself the last two days to think about life and my spirituality.  This is a time of great uncertainty for alot of people and alot of confussion.  Its a hot election year with Mitt Romney running for President and we have seen numerous posts, videos and articles about him and our faith. I’ve personally met Mitt Romney and he is a geniune and decent faithful man.  I believe in him and what he can do to change things around and bring hope and change to America.  Recently went to 7-11 to get hot chocolate and found this: One is full of substance and the other is full of EMPTY promises. That’s my one and only political statement. I loved watching Glenn Beck’s segment on him and actually telling the behind the scenes personal stories of his life and his character.  That is what the gospel teaches to love to serve and to bless those around us and Mitt will do just that. Our Mormon faith is getting attacked at every angle and Elder Holland said it best here.  I want to be able to stand before others and defend the Book of Mormon like Brandon Flowers did here.  I love how he isn’t afraid to talk about what he believes, but rather, visibly is ready to defend it!  It’s individual and I need to stand and declare my testimony more and hold to that rod tenaciously. The Book of Mormon is true!  It gives me hope.  ...

Increase in Learning

Trent and I received this book from his parents for Christmas. I didn’t open it up until today and I have had my parents in town visiting and they wanted to look at the DVD supplement that came with the book. What a great book to start off the new year! We watched the whole DVD first before reading the book and I was very impressed with it and how much I need to learn more about the questions that I ask. I will report back soon after I actually read the book but wanted to share with you a snippet of what I was taught that stood out to me thus far. When we ask ourselves questions about anything in life but more importantly the spiritual ones we need to think about the doctrines and principlies that are behind that question and then use the application to help us find out its...

FHE Board

I’ve had this board for quite some time now and its quite simple. But then I realized that it needed some fixing up and that I too also needed to create a Family Home Evening board for our family. So I put 2 and 2 together and created the new 6. I took what I already had hanging around the house which happened to be extra ovals that I had created for the girls baskets and used it for this project. I just used my trusted friend the label maker to help me out. Notice the little boys have the prayers and songs. BEFORE AFTER UP...

Stratton’s Baby Blessing

Reeghan’s Baptism

Today was a wonderful day for our little family. Our firstborn daughter, Reeghan, was baptized a member of the Church. She has been awaiting this day for quite some time. We did an 8 day challenge with her to lead her to her day. I am just grateful that it was her decision to be baptized and that she continues to learn and study and want to know. My parents were the only ones from my side to make the trip to California and they enjoyed sharing the day with her. My mother started to tear up before she talked so it got me started then she gave the talk on Baptism and set the tone for Reeghan to understand what she was about to do. Reeghan actually looked at each person in the eye while they talked to her and I could feel that she was really listening and taking it all in. As we reached the time for her to go into the water I had forgotten to give her her rubberband for her hair. She was so adamant that she had to have her hair pulled back so that it didn’t float up and she had to be dunked again. So I caught it and had to have her come back up the stairs to me. I just wanted to soak in those few seconds so I tried to drag it out. The prayer only lasts 10-15 seconds and as she came out of that water a rush from the Spirit consumed me and I could tell that it reached her as well. Her face was priceless and the smile that radiated from ear to ear was beyond comparison. We just hugged for about 10 seconds more at the top of the stairs and I told her to look back into that water and to just soak it all in and realized what had just taken place. We went into the bathroom and I once again told her again and again how much she was loved and how Heavenly Father and Jesus were happy that she made that decision. Reeghan told me that she was so happy too and felt so clean. Then Paetan came in to congratulate her and told her that she was the best sister in the world. It was a great moment for the two of them to embrace and to see that Reeghan was being a great example to her younger sister. It was times like this moment when I realized that sisters don’t have to have contention all the time and to show affection for eachother. I grew up not hugging and kissing my sisters so it has been a new experience for me to really push that onto my children and to make sure they know that we can forgive and hug and show affection. Reeghan Aleyna Chapman Confirmation, July 9, 2011 By her father, Trent Michael Chapman Reeghan Aleyna Chapman, by the authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood we confirm you a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and say unto you, Receive the Holy Ghost. Reeghan, we bless you at this time that as you go forward in the gospel and learn about Jesus Christ and His eternal plan of happiness you will strengthen your testimony by studying the scriptures, praying daily and doing those things that you know to be right.
