Hillary

The kids and I went to a new park today that we always had driven by and said that we should go to that park.  We finally did and its the San Marcos Civic Center park.  Its not a convient place because you have to park and walk and they don’t have bathrooms at the park.

The reason we actually finally decided to go to this park was because of Paetan.  It’s her birthday today so they get to plan where and what we do.

We started to play and I had been thinking about missionary work since the night before when the elders came over for dinner and I felt the impression that I was going to find someone to talk to.

Sure enough Hillary and her two boys came.  We started up conversation that led to her going to SLC for the first time and I told her I grew up there and she asked what she could do there when she had spare time.  I told her about the new City Creek and The Gateway and Cafe Rio but ended of course with a visit to temple square.

She had known Mormons growing up and talked about how service minded we are.  She actually told me that the missionaries had come to her home a few weeks back and then as they were ending their conversation the missionaries asked if they could do some yard work for her.  She declined cause she felt bad but she told me how sweet and geniune they were to her.

We had to end our conversation due to the dinner time hour but we exchanged numbers.  I told her to call me when she got to SLC for further information about it.  We shall see what happens.

Later on I read a talk by Sis. Wixom about the importance of talking with our children about everything and finding ways to listen while they talk as well.  It was a great message and just rang true to me this very day.

I went to my girls and talked with them about my experience at the park that day.  Reeghan said, “Mom, I already know I was listening to you talk to her”  I wasn’t even paying attention to what Reeghan was doing while we talked I just assumed she was on the playground.  She is getting to the age where she wants to listen to all my conversations.

At that moment I realized just how important it is to rejoice in Christ, talk of Christ and preach of Christ.

They are listening!
