Whole Wheat Bread

This is the 2nd time that I have ever made bread. I started it all by myself and go the courage to do it and then Trent came home towards the end of the process and helped me finish it off. I think he was worried that I was going to mess it up. Which I have messed up many recipes in times past so I can understand where he is coming from.

But I do have to say that this time I did it right! It was successful enough that people were asking for the recipe. So I guess it was a hit!

The recipe that I used is on the back of the Whole Wheat Flour Thrive can.

2 TBsp of yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1 tsp white sugar

Soften yeast in warm water and sugar and set aside. (I have granite countertops so I had to put a towel underneath my bowl so that the yeast worked properly. Tip from The Food Nanny.) Let rise until size doubles.

In a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment, combine the following ingredients in order:

4 cups whole wheat flour
3 1/2 c hot water
2 eggs, room temperature
1/4 cup melted butter
2/3 cup oil
5 tsp salt
2/3 cup honey
Yeast mixture
8 cups whole wheat flour

Mix for 8-10 minutes. Turn out onto a lightly floured board or countertop. Separate into 3 balls and shape into loaves.

Place loaves in a well greased bread pans with smooth sides up. Cover with a warm, damp towel and let rise for 45 minutes. (Or another tip by MIL put the 3 loaves into my oven and cover with towel till it reached 170 degrees and then turn it off and let rise for about 45 min.)

Bake 350 for 30 minutes.
